My Book at Barnes&Noble

As I’m sitting down and writing this, I don’t even know where to start. I briefly posted on social media a few days ago about how my book, The Attrition, is now available at Barnes&Noble, which is such a huge opportunity for me. Since a couple of people have asked me how that even happened and at first, I wasn’t for sure myself, but I wanted to give everyone an explanation as well as my thoughts on it.

As we all know, my books (The Attrition and Double-Edged Sword) are available on Amazon, where I self-publish. But I also use another website called IngramSpark that sends out my book onto a retailer’s catalog list, and then from there, it’s up to the retailer to chose my book or not. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that my book…MY BOOK…would be available at Barnes&Noble. And some of you might be asking, “Makayla, why is that such a big deal?”. Well, I self-publish, so that essentially means I do everything myself. I format, I plug into Amazon, I do majority of the work, besides help from my fantastic copy editor, proofreader, and cover artist. Yes, Amazon is an amazing platform to work with, but in reality, a lot of “book readers” don’t go to Amazon to buy their books; they mainly go to buy their books at Barnes&Noble or any other big book retailer. With all of that being said, having my book at Barnes&Noble, not only will attract a larger audience, but also potentially open up doors for me to get an agent and a traditional publisher, which could expand and take my books to the next level.

I know this is longer than my normal posts, so if you’re reading this, thank you for sticking with me through all of my rambling. The past few days, I have barely been able to form a proper sentence about how excited I am and how amazing and insane this opportunity is. All I can say is: God is good. Also, I cannot thank you all enough. Your endless support and love has made all of this possible, and I’m so so grateful.

- Makayla :)
